Event Details
UNESCO and GYBN are cordially inviting you to join our workshop on Rethinking Conservation: Intergenerational Pathways for Reconciliation with Nature
The workshop will take place on Saturday, March 12 between 10:00-20:00 in Geneva. It will also be livestreamed so that people can also participate online.
The venue in central Geneva is currently being confirmed and the exact address will be communicated to all registered in-person participants in due course.
This event intends to provide a platform to enable an open dialogue between representatives of Parties, Civil Society, Women, Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities and Youth in order to support the process to set robust targets for area-based conservation that fully integrate suitable qualitative criteria such as feasible indicators, strong safeguards for people and nature, and effective implementation guidelines.
Our expectation is that this process will help to go beyond strictly protected areas and quantitative targets by showing that a diversity of alternative transformational pathways exist, such as OECM.
We hope that this workshop will provide a platform to rethink traditional conservation concepts by employing intersectionality and taking into account cross-cutting themes such as justice, gender, inclusion and culture in order to reach deeper, more reflective pathways for a just and sustainable transition towards the CBD Global Biodiversity Framework’s vision of living in harmony with nature.
We would be delighted to welcome you!
