Human Health and Planetary Health are intrinsically linked and our well-being depends on a stable climate and well-functioning ecosystems. The changes to the Earth’s climate contribute to multiple threats such as dwindling water resources and food insecurity and cause health issues like allergens, respiratory diseases, heat-induced illness, and infectious diseases. The Covid-19 pandemic showed us that mistreatment of animals and the environment can have dire consequences. If we continue on our path of exploitation we risk another pandemic that could be significantly worse than what we experienced over the past two years.

Our Planet – Our Health™ is a holistic approach to human health and our pledge to support the well-being of people and the planet. In this webinar, our CEO Dr Ossama Salamah will host two experts in wildlife research and conservation:

Ian Redmond is a tropical field biologist and conservationist, renowned for his work with great apes and elephants. For more than 40 years he has been associated with mountain gorillas and worked with the iconic Dr Diane Fossey. He participated in more than 100 documentary films for the BBC, National Geographic, Discovery Channel, TF1, and the 3D movie ‘The Last of the Great Apes’ and supported the famous "Life on Earth" series with Sir David Attenborough.

Dr Mark Jones worked for many years in fish health and disease control, before spending five years travelling extensively and working on rescue and rehabilitation projects for primates, bears, birds, and reptiles in South America and Asia. He has a master’s degrees in aquatic and wild animal health, and years of experience in the non-government animal protection sector covering international wildlife trade, wildlife management and animal welfare issues.

By attending this webinar, you will learn:
• How the climate, human health and biodiversity crises are interrelated
• How the way we treat animals and the environment affects their health and increases the risk to people
• How the health and welfare of animals are related to the climate crisis
• What aspects of our relationship with wildlife and the wider environment need to change to improve our health and well-being
